Are you thinking about building a home wall? Or do you currently have one and want some new ideas for how to improve it?
This is an awesome article from cruxcrush.com sharing tips they’ve learned along the way about building a rad home wall.
They believe in the type of home wall that is designed to fit your own personal training needs while also providing an atmosphere that supports your local climbing community.
The first topic is variety in the home wall frame and how it’s important for creating more interesting movement when setting problems (for example by trying to build in a dihedral/corner, or adding a volume). Then they talk about setting: how often they recommend it and how they strategize it.
Next they talk about foot chips (you want lots of them) and how you can make boulder problems easier or harder just by changing which foot holds are allowed. They discuss establishing “house rules” (having to control the second to last hold for instance).
Then the article talks about how to make it more than just a home wall by adding in some training equipment (and they describe how you can actually practice leading while working your routes). They remind you that one of the coolest things about having your own wall is that it’s your own and it can evolve with you and your training (and how you can make those changes on the wall).
And finally, they talk about the importance in setting the mood of your home wall (making it welcoming, comfortable, and a motivating space, etc).
It’s a great article if you currently have a home wall or are thinking about setting one up. Read it in full here…..
