Rock and Ice is presenting a yearlong training plan broken down as a seven-part series of 6-week programming.

They are basing their workout programming on the principles of periodization, a training approach that has been proven to yield good results.

Their training plan is designed to work for climbers of all levels.

Part 1 is the conditioning phase.  As it is introduced in the article by author Neil Gresham:

You must develop a good base of fitness first. Skip this step and you will risk burning out later in the program. The first few weeks of conditioning target general fitness, and the amount of climbing gradually increases as the phase progresses. These four main work-outs target different areas of fitness. It’s up to you to choose what days during the week you perform these exercises.”

This Rock and Ice article gives the six-week breakdown by category (or weekly microcycles as they call it) and then shares the session-plan details for each microcycle.

Each six-week segment builds on the one before it. Get started building your fitness base!
