CAMP USA athlete, rock crusher, and good friend Paige Claassen wrote this article for the CAMP website (golightgofast.com) about advice on how to try hard.

As she says, pushing your physical ability is clearly really important in advancing your climbing, but it also comes down to your ability and willingness to try really, really hard.

She shares 10 tips for learning how to reach this state of being able to try hard.

For instance, one of her tips:

“4. Fail. If you’re not falling, you’re not trying hard enough routes. While training, it’s important to push yourself to the point of failure.”

You know that glorious feeling: when you approach your crux, bare down and try really hard….and it works? That’s what training your try hard is all about….

As you’ll notice, the “how to try hard list” could also be read as the “how to succeed list”. Trying hard is the final step to success. It’s a difficult combination of energies to channel, but when it happens, we discover for a tiny moment that all is right in the world. That is, until we find that the next “easy” move is suddenly the new crux after asserting all our energy on the move prior. In that case, repeat 1-10. Good luck!”

Paige Claassen knows about trying hard and it clearly works for her…take her advice!
