When most people talk about a strong core, they immediately think of six pack abs and unending sets of sit ups.  However, training a complete core for climbing requires strengthening all the muscles between the shoulders and hips on both the front and back of your body.  To do this effectively, you need a series of core exercises that that target the different muscle groups of your trunk and do not neglect elements of the core.

To give you a complete core training routine, here’s a video from EpicTV and climbing coach Eric Hörst that gives you five exercises that will strengthen your entire core and produce climbing specific gains.

Complete Core Exercises:

Here are the core exercises Hörst outlines in the video:

  • Ab Roll Out on TRX/Rings
  • Windshield Wipers
  • Supermans
  • Front Levers
  • Dumbbell Snatch

In the video, Hörst demonstrates exactly how to preform all of these exercises properly.  As with all training, proper form is incredibly important and it is better to build up to being able to do several quality reps rather than lots of reps with poor form.

Beyond simply showing you how to do these exercises, Hörst also gives you a target number of sets and reps to make this a complete workout that you can easily add directly into your training program.  Click through below to watch the complete video and learn all about this core routine yourself.
