A huge part of successfully training for climbing is discipline. Most of the time we think about that as the discipline to head into the gym and consistently try our hardest. While this is obviously the most important part of training, we also need to keep in mind that not every day can be a training day and not every training day can be at a high level of intensity.
Training breaks our bodies down. Rest and recovery are when we actually get stronger. However, recovery isn’t always a passive process and a recovery workout can be just as important as a session where we really push ourselves. To help stress this point, here’s a recovery workout taken from the TrainingBeta Bouldering Strength and Power Program.
This workout isn’t about pushing yourself to the limit. Instead, it’s about putting in the maintenance work to make sure we give our bodies a chance to recover and stay injury free. Give the workout a shot next time you are feeling a little under recovered on a training day. Then, if you like it be sure to check out the full bouldering program for yourself!
