Good footwork can make all the difference for climbing well.

It’s probably not the first time you’ve heard that, right?

So if good footwork is such an important skill for climbing, how do you train it?

Luckily for us, in this article found on climbing.com, Mike and Mark Anderson put together this list of drills and guidelines for improving your footwork and technique. The Anderson brothers are the authors of the Rock Climber’s Training Manual and are training experts.

In this article they give the “how”, “when”, and “why” explanations for footwork training. They then describe the 7 drills they recommend for improving footwork and technique with specific goals given for each drill. To wrap it up, they include illustrations of common gym footholds and how your foot should look using them. Pretty sweet.

Love your podcasts. I like to hear all the training methods that often vary dramatically. My wife and I train for the 24 hours of horseshoe hell each year and this year we are applying the Anderson brothers’ book routines but combine with a bit of the “extreme alpinism” info for our cardio. Keep up the good work.
